Class Schedule August – September 2013

Most of our leather crafting classes include all the supplies, unless noted below. Each student is responsible for bringing their own tools, if needed, for a specific class. If you are just now getting started in tooling leather, either our Basic or Deluxe Leathercraft Starter Set is the best option for you to purchase. Also plan on doing some extra shopping on the day of your class, as your purchases, that day only, will be at the Elite level.

Each student is required to RSVP for the class(es) they want to attend. In the event that you have to cancel after you have prepaid for a class, the class fee will be refunded in store credit. We do offer an alternate list for people to sign up on in the event that the class is already full. We will call the alternates in the order they are signed up if we receive a cancellation.

Take a look at our class schedule below. We have added more basic classes and intermediate classes to get you started off on the right foot in leather crafting. Please also take note if the class is a beginner’s class or intermediate class. To take an intermediate class, you will be required to have learned the basics.

Happy leather crafting!

Jo, Jean, and Tim

Open Table Tuesdays, 5 pm – 7 pm. Feel free to come by on Tuesday evenings and work on your project with other leatherworkers. Share your experiences and learn new tips from others. Please let us know that you’re coming to make sure that we have enough room at our table! Please plan on arriving before 6 pm.

Basic Carving Class, August 3rd & 10th, 10 am-Noon. In this 2-part class, we will take you through the process of taking a carving project from a picture to a finished project. Each student must provide the basic 7 tool set (or equivalent), mallet, modeling spoon, and the desire to learn the proper techniques to do western floral carving. There will be homework between classes! Class fee is $35.00.

Double Loop Lacing, August 17th, 10 am-1 pm. In this class, we are going to teach you how to do the most popular lacing – the double loop lace. Then you’ll have no excuses to shy away from making anything you want because “you don’t know how to do that”! We will provide the needles, lace, and leather. Class fee is $10.00.

Steam Punk Utility Bag, August 24th, 10 am–1 pm. In this class you will make a fun steam punk-type pouch. This would be a great class for you and/or your teenager. You will need to bring your favorite veiner, border, or camouflage tool, a seeder tool, a wing divider, and a slicker. (Need some suggestions on tools? We can help with that.) We’ll provide the rest of the materials including some themed 3D stamps and dye! Class fee is $20.00.

Braided Leather Bracelet, August 31ST, 10 am-1 pm. This is a very easy way to make a classy, braided leather bracelet. We’ll provide the leather, lace, and button stud. You need to bring a sharp pair of leather scissors. Be prepared to have some fun and be amazed at how simple this bracelet is to make. Class fee is $15.00.

Basic Carving Class, Sept. 7th & 14th, 10 am-Noon.

Watch Strap, September 21st, 10 am-1 pm. Learn how to make a unique leather watch strap for your favorite watch. This is not a beginner class. You need to bring (and be comfortable using) a straight edge, a skiver/safety beveler, #2 craft knife or rotary cutter (scissors not recommended), 12” or bigger cutting board, a hole punch, stitching groover, and some beeswax (slicker tool and small edge beveler are optional). We will provide all the materials. Class fee is $20.00 (Please bring $10 payable to the guest instructor!)

Stirrup Purse, September 28th, 9:30 am–3:30 pm. In this all-day class, you will make a small drawstring bag that is very easy to make. The stirrup purse is designed to use a veg-tan leather strip on the outside edge and suede for the sides. It is about 2.75” x 6” x 6.5” finished size, just big enough for your cell, ID, and some incidentals. You will need to bring scissors, a 3/32” drive punch, cutting board, and 4-5 small binder clips. We will be providing the leather, grommets (with setter and hole punch), needles, and lace. In the first half of this class, we’ll be cutting out the pieces, punching holes, and setting grommets. We will have some dyes available if you would like to color your “gusset”. After lunch, we’ll start the double loop lacing and make sure that you are comfortable with finishing the project. Class fee is $35.00.
