Frequently Asked Questions/ How-To

Website Accounts - I have a website account at one of your other websites. Do I need to set up a separate web account here? Yes, all our websites are separate websites and do not share web account information. Therefore even though you have an account at one of our other websites you'll need to set one up here to make purchases.

What is the Leathercraft Library? is the most comprehensive source of vintage and new patterns and designs for leathercrafters on the web. For the first time ever, leathercrafters worldwide will have access, in downloadable PDF format, to Tandy’s archive of patterns, books, Doodle Pages and much more. New patterns and projects will be added regularly, as well as more vintage/archived patterns that haven't been available to the public for years! You will be able to subscribe to premium videos from master leather artists such as George Hurst, Jim Linnell, Tony Laier and Charlie Davenport. Video categories include: Basic Leathercraft, Stamping, Coloring, Figure & Pictorial Carving, Lacing, Stitching, Bling, Advanced Carving techniques and more. New videos will be added regularly.

So, what exactly am I buying?

When you make a purchase on, you are buying a downloadable .PDF file. With these .PDF files, you will be able to print off the digital media you purchased on either a home printer, or at a print shop (for personal use only, please see our Terms and Conditions)
The .PDF files have been put together to give you options when it comes to printing. Pages and patterns that are larger than 8½x11 have been provided in two formats:

1) Full Size - If you would like to have a full size print out, take the full size pages to your local print shop and they can print it for you.

2) Tiled - The tiled pages give you the option of printing the larger patterns at home. You print the tiled pages and then assemble them to make the larger patterns. The pattern PDF files are typically laid out like this:
Cover (if applicable)
Instruction sheets (if applicable)
Pattern 1 – Full Size
Pattern 1 – Tiled
Pattern 2 – Full Size
Pattern 2 – Tiled
Pattern 3 – Full Size
Pattern 3 – Tiled

I have not received the order that I placed weeks ago.

When you make a purchase on, you are buying a downloadable .PDF file - not an item(s) that will be shipped to you. Once your order is placed, you should receive an email with the subject "Leathercraft Library Download Instructions" which contains download links and download instructions for the items you purchased. If you didn't receive the email, please see the next question.

If I haven't received the download link email, what should I do?

Sometimes the email ends up in your spam or trash folders so check there first. You can always access your downloadable products from the Order History section on your Account page. Log on to your account and scroll down to the Order History section. The title of the products are download links. Just click on the title and that starts the download process. Example:

Make sure you save the file to your computer.

How do I make sure that I print the pattern at its original size?

When we created these .PDF files, we made sure that the scale of the patterns was true to their original printed counterparts.
Please note if you are having problems with print size: When printing on a home printer, use the settings seen on the image to the right in the Page Handling area of the Adobe Reader print dialogue box. If your printer is cutting edges off, set “Page Scaling” to “Shrink to Printable Area”. This will, however, decrease the size of the pattern a very small amount.

I've downloaded the file, but I can't open it (unknown file type), what do I do?

1) Leathercraft Library eBooks are PDF files that are designed to be opened within Adobe Acrobat Reader. Make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader for your operating system. You can download the latest version here: get Adobe Reader (don't worry, Adobe Reader is free).

2) To Download the eBook using the download link in your confirmation email:
PC Users: You must Right-Click the download link and choose "Save Link As..." or "Save Target As..." to save the file to a location on your computer.

Mac Users: Simply click on the download link to save the file to your computer. If you have problems, try Option + Click and the "Save to Disk" command to save the file to your computer.

Note: You may also need to disable any firewall software you are running that may block access to the download.

3) To Open the file: Open Adobe Reader. Go to File/Open on the menu and find the eBook .pdf file and click on it.

Troubleshooting Hints

1) When I view the PDF file, all I get is computer code gibberish. If you open the PDF file and you are only seeing a bunch of random characters/gibberish on your screen, that means that you are probably viewing the file in a word processor or some program other than the Adobe Acrobat Reader program.

Sometimes your computer may default to a word processor when it doesn't know how to properly open a file. The remedy is simple. Open the Adobe Acrobat Reader program which you installed and then open the .pdf document using the FILE/OPEN Menu selections within the Acrobat Reader program. If you open the PDF file using Adobe Acrobat Reader, it should work perfectly.

How would I print the full size pattern onto 1 sheet of regular sized paper (shrink it down)?

It may sometimes be useful to be able to see the full pattern on one 8 1/2 X 11 piece of paper. To do this, open the .PDF and either press the print icon, or go to file-->print. Once the Adobe Reader print dialogue box has opened, make sure you select "pages" in the print range area and then type in the page number of the large pattern you are trying to print. (Please note that if you are trying to print a page from an eBook or some patterns, the page number seen at the bottom left or right of the page is the page number from the original printed book/pattern and may not be the actual page number of the .PDF) Once you have done that, select the drop down menu next to "page scaling" in the "page handling" area and select "Shrink to Printable Area". From here, press OK and continue on with your normal printing procedures.

I can't log in to my account, what should I do?

Can I purchase DVD's of the videos or already printed version of the digital media?

No. is solely a digital distributor.

How can I buy something for someone else?

The best way to purchase a product for someone else is to, instead, buy them an eGift Card and then have them buy the product themselves. This way the product can be associated to their own account if they ever needed to download it again.

Can I sell something that I've made using your patterns?

Yes! In fact, we encourage it. Making and selling leather goods from the patterns you purchase at can be a fun and lucrative business. What you can't do is sell the pattern itself (that would be against our Terms and Conditions).

"Stuttering" Video Playback: Frame Loss - What is the cause and how to fix

Frame loss appears as stuttering playback while viewing the Premium Video Player. Frame loss is primarily a result of the CPU burden of your computer. A lack of system resources (either in memory or CPU power) is what causes frame loss.

The Premium Video Player can detect frame loss and will downgrade to a lower quality rendition to mitigate it. What the underlying issue is, is that you are being served a rendition based on bandwidth detection, but your system is failing to render the quality at an acceptable level. Thus, frame loss. The driving factors here are:
- CPU availability/processing power
- System Memory
- Video Card memory and GPU power.

To fix, close out all other applications, browser windows, etc...or perform a reboot and only open the the Premium Video Player on You will likely see an improvement. Though this is not guaranteed, this usually illustrates a significant difference in playback due to the availability of additional resources.
